Who We Are

Santa Monica Fertility Specialists (SMFS) is led by Dr. John Jain, a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist with over twenty-five years of academic and clinical experience. Dr. Jain completed his medical training at the University of Southern California, where he remained for nearly a decade on the Faculty of Medicine. He left that position to pursue his own vision of patient care: a practice that combines outstanding medical expertise, cutting-edge research and respectful, individualized attention to the patient's mental and physical well-being. The goal: to improve the likelihood of pregnancy and the birth of healthy babies.

We provide the most advanced reproductive medicine and fertility services available. Our full spectrum of treatments and fertility-related surgeries includes IVF, artificial insemination, tubal embryo transfer, egg freezing, and a range of other innovative procedures at the forefront of fertility research.

What Makes Us Different

Santa Monica Fertility Specialists is the home of the Embryo ICU ^TM. Unlike most labs in which every embryo is grown under identical conditions, we individually monitor each embryo. We gather information on a daily basis and make adjustments accordingly, customizing the conditions under which each embryo develops.

At our nonprofit sister foundation, the Lyan Institute of Fertility Research (LIFE Research), we conduct ongoing research in human fertility and embryonic development. This research is directly applied to our work in the Embryo ICU, further increasing the success of IVF.

Our expertise in the field of egg freezing is unmatched. Dr. Jain conducted the largest prospective egg freezing study in North America, yielding a pregnancy rate of 56% – the highest in the country. While at USC, he created the egg freezing program that is now part of our comprehensive fertility preservation program. We have worked closely with a team of cancer specialists to develop this truly life-changing resource for women diagnosed with cancer and facing sterilizing chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Our Facilities

SMFS’s medical facilities include a state-licensed ambulatory surgical center, an egg freezing unit and our in vitro fertilization (IFV) and andrology laboratories all employing the most sophisticated equipment available. The egg freezing unit and labs are overseen by Dr. Li Meng, a world-class embryologist and molecular biologist who joins SMFS from the Fertility Center at the New York University School of Medicine. All of our facilities have been built to his rigorous specifications to ensure optimum conditions for embryo development and storage.

The Whole Patient

Because fertility treatment impacts our patients both physically and emotionally, we have established MindBodyWellness at SMFS and we encourage patients to utilize this empowering resource. The on-site center offers mind/body programs, acupuncture, massage and other complementary therapies proven to both significantly reduce the symptoms associated with stress and anxiety and to increase the likelihood of conception.

At SMFS, there are no hidden costs. We understand that decisions regarding treatment may be influenced by financial concerns and we are aware how much additional stress this can cause you. For this reason we want to emphasize our willingness to discuss these issues with you openly at any time prior to or during your treatment. Before you begin, we will explain in detail all potential charges so that you can make appropriate financial plans.
