The changing climate and the possibility of extreme heat is fast becoming more and more common in the southwestern part of the United States, even contributing to illness and death. And there may be many more issues being caused by this change in climate, including fertility challenges. In the past, when temperatures rose past 80 degrees Fahrenheit the birth rates have typically fallen. And if the changes in these weather patterns increase, this may cause issues for couples trying to conceive in sunny Los Angeles.

So what can couples at home do? Turn on the a/c. But that, ironically, poses additional challenges for the climate. At the very least, it is important to know that it may be harder to conceive during the hotter, summer months, and perhaps the best thing to do is, knowing this, aim to schedule baby-making sessions during the other times of the year, or better yet – take a conception-moon. Many couples who are in dire need of alone time escape the stresses of their lives to re-connect and have an opportunity to be alone together, which often times helps when trying to conceive. Just don’t go anywhere too hot!
